Last Service for Organ

The Organ was played for the last time at the evening service on Tuesday 6th January.

After the Festal Eucharist for the Feast of the Epiphany at 5:15pm, the Director of Music, Assistant Director of Music and Organ Scholar each played piece on the Organ.

Over one hundred attended a reception provided by the Friends of Wells Cathedral to mark the last time the Cathedral Organ is played, prior to the restoration which will take almost two years.

The Dean thanked the Friends of Wells Cathedral for committing to funding over £2,2m towards the £3.2m total bill and for their continued support for the Cathedral. The Friends continue to lead on the Grand Organ Appeal and all funds raised will be sed for the rebuilding and renovation of the Organ.

Meanwhile the new temporary organ is in place and will be used while the Grand Organ is dismantled and rebuilt.
