From the Camery Garden

Wells Cathedral

Wells became the centre of a new Diocese in 909AD and though a Bishop moved his Cathedral to Bath for a time, has remained at the heart of the diocese of Bath and Wells ever since.

The site of a church since sometime around 705AD, worship has been offered at the wells from pre-history. This special place continues to welcome those who visit from both far and near.

The Cathedral receives no regular state aid and has to find the funds to maintain the fabric and ensure its continuing life and work, not least from amongst its Friends.
